A barge and a bicycle

The last picture I have to share for the day I walked between West Stockwith and Misterton, is this shot or a bicycle in front of a barge at the marina where the Chesterfield Canal joins the River Trent.

    1. Thanks Andrew.

Because the XA3 is so compact, I often use it a lot in the wintertime, just keeping it with me at all times in a coat pocket or whatever. Because the UK winter weather tends to favour a lot of cloud, pushing the film a stop gives me a little more leeway in terms of avoiding camera shake, especially as the XA3 gives no control over shutter speed or the aperture. HP5 pushes really nicely in Ilfotex DD-X developer too, so I’m happy to shoot it at higher ISO settings. It gives good results from my experience up to 3200ASA (I’ve not tried it past that!).

If I’m shooting the XA3 in the spring through autumn, I’d likely rate films at box speed though.

      1. Your comment has made me think about how the camera sets the ASA, so I looked it up. Turns out it auto-reads the DX code even if you change the ASA lever (unless the film has no DX code), so I’ve actually been push processing HP5+ that was shot at box speed LOL. Good job HP5+ has great latitude, eh? 😀
