Around the old town in Dubrovnik

I thought I’d drop a bunch of pictures I took while wandering around the old town on the first day of hour trip to Dubrovnik. They’re mostly random shots of scenery (and there will be more, similar posts to come), but I was carefully trying to shoot the wedding party in their colourful clothes only for someone to photobomb the picture with their hand!

Boats in Dubrivnik old town harbour

There are a couple of main harbours in Dubrovnik. One is large and to the north of the town, filled with everything from small dinghies and pleasure boats, up to super yachts and cruise ships.

The other is nestled into the side of the old town and, while much smaller, is also much more picturesque. It’s still a working harbour, as can be seen with the small boat full of ropes and fishing nets, but it’s also bang in the heart of the tourist-filled part of the town.

Snapping a snapper

This was a very quick, spur-of-the-moment picture, but one that I think turned out quite nicely.

It’s a scene looking west down one of the side streets in Dubrovnik old town towards the city wall in the background. Pretty much all of these narrow streets were bustling with restaurants and bars like in this scene.

Rubber duck shop

There were a number of shops in Dubrovnik old town that sold nothing but rubber ducks. While regular rubber ducks were available, so were ducks resembling a whole range of other characters, from pug dogs to Darth Vader.

I didn’t buy one though – we don’t have a bath, just a shower, so they don’t tend to float very well. 🙂

Hotel duplicates

When I was on holiday this year, I decided to “live post” each day, transferring pictures from my digital camera to my phone, and from there to the blog.

One of the pictures I shared was the view from the room in our (very nice) hotel. You can see the picture here.

Today’s photos are of the same view, the only difference being the fact that these were shot on Kodak Colorplus on my Olympus Trip 35.

While the digital shot has much more resolution, I think I prefer the rendering of the film versions.

The hotel in the picture isn’t part of the complex we stayed in, it’s the one next door. 🙂

Grebeni rocks and lighthouse

I’ve already posted some photographs from our holiday in Dubrovnik at the start of the summer (a summer that is almost at a close!), but not any that I shot on film. I have quite a lot of them!

There will be more to come, either in blocks, or dribs and drabs, and I might break them up with other stuff, but here’s one to start. These are Grebeni Rocks, a small chain of barrier islands not far from the hotel where we stayed. Just visible on the rightmost island is a structure. That is Grebeni lighthouse. While the light is still active, the lighthouse keepers house can be rented as holiday accommodation apparently. A boat is probably handy.

The seas were mostly calm while we were at the resort, but there was one day when a storm had caused heavier conditions and waves were breaking on the rocks with considerable splashes.
