Gone to pasture
I spotted this old tractor at the weekend when I noticed a footpath went right through the middle of the farmyard. It’s a spot I think I’ll return to as there’s loads of scope for some interesting photographs. I got a couple more on this roll, so you might see those in a day or two.

Ploughed
I went for a drive to find something to shoot the last few frames of a roll of Portra I had in the Yashica Mat. As I rounded a bend on a country lane, the sunlight on this ploughed field caught my eye.

Imagine
A young-ish fella did attempt to play this a couple of times when I was there, but he spotted me trying to line up a shot and made a swift exit, sadly.
I’m not sure if I like the bag on the lid or not. It both adds interest and removes charm at the same time. 🙂

Balls of steel
I can’t remember if I’ve posted a photo of these on the blog before, but this is a new shot taken this past weekend. There are several of these water features around St. Paul’s Place in Sheffield, all different sizes and clustered in groups or individually. They are probably one of the most photographed things in the city, along with the “Cheese Grater” car-park (which can just be spotted encroaching into the top of this image).
There’s a vague ghost of a selfie to be spotted in the reflection. 🙂

Sssst! Hot!
There are a few of these large metal “seats” scattered around Tudor Square in Sheffield. Obviously in the summertime they can get pretty hot. This brings back memories of being a child and getting into a sun-baked car with vinyl seats while wearing shorts. Ouch!

Rainy alley
I’ve photographed this alley before, but couldn’t resist another shot in the sunshine-and-showers weather conditions we had here on Saturday. The wet street adds so much to the shot, I think.

Photographing the ordinary
Some more colour photos, although in a different vein to my other recent colour shots. Instead of the splashes of colour, texture and contrast that I tend to favour in 35mm, these are shots of relatively mundane, ordinary subjects. You would be fully within your rights to say that they’re boring, and I’m not sure I could argue against that. Nonetheless, shots such as this have an appeal to my particular tastes. In the same way that Stephen Shore’s photographs of traffic intersections and motel room interiors have a compelling interest to them so, I think, do photographs of other outwardly dull subjects – the sort of things that most people will pass by without a second glance and yet are still objects that would be missed were they no longer there. Oftentimes, these things are showing signs of neglect and there’s an appeal to the thought of that fading beauty.

Eyam sheep roast
The sheep roasting jack in Eyam in the Peak District. The village carnival, when the sheep roast takes place, is held each September. It’s not something I’ve ever attended, but it’s nearly lunchtime and the thought of it is making me hungry!

Times change
I really like the way this quaint village scene came out (it’s in Eyam). It has a nice contrast and crispness about it. It has a somewhat nostalgic air, or a least it does until you notice the modern cars in the background and the fact that the phone box has now been modified to house a defibrillator instead of a payphone. Hopefully no-one will attempt to make a call with it! 🙂
