Frosted tree

Another photo from my outing in the Peak District the other week. I took a few shots of this area of silver birch with my DSLR, but grabbed a shot with the Yashica Mat too. Unfortunately, it seems the batch of film I was using was one that had faults and so the print from the backing paper has shown up on a number of pictures – especially in low detail areas such as the sky. I think I’ve manged to remove it reasonably well in Photoshop though.

Frozen

I got up early and went out to catch the sunrise in the Peak District last weekend. The place was blanketed with a thin layer of snow and it was a crisp and cold morning(-1.5C). I shot several colour photos on digital, but took the Yashica Mat out with me and shot a roll-and-a-half of black and white too, including this one.

Winter walkers

My initial plan for this photo was just of an empty scene with the track curving around to White Edge Lodge in the middle-right of the frame but, upon seeing this couple and their dog approaching, I held the composition until they were close and had a separation between them. They probably wondered what I was doing, standing still with a weird-looking old-fashioned camera as they walked by, although both responded to my greeting of “good morning” in a friendly way. 🙂

In a lonely place

Despite the bleak and empty look of the scene, this tree is actually bang next to a busy road (see, there I go, ruining the atmosphere…). I think it’s a location that I’ll pay further visits to in different conditions. I think it will be a pretty nice all-weather subject.

Sandwiches

I’m digging this one out of the archive (it was taken 13-months ago). A fairly mundane subject, but the mundane stuff is often what I like, and the low December sun illuminating this sandwich shop caught my eye on the day and was worth the shot I think.

Slightly unnerving

This huge hare-headed woman is at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (not far from a circle of beautifully crafted animal head sculptures – albeit them being on a much smaller scale). They’re impressive to see but, like some of the other sculpted figured dotted around the park, can be oddly unnerving.
