So, unless I make another visit to an airshow or aircraft museum in the near future, this is probably the last aircraft shot for a while. It’s another shot of the Vulcan bomber from yesterday, but this time a profile shot of the cockpit.

It looks well – beautiful curves. How do you like the F80? I’m in the market for an auto everything film SLR and that’s one that has been on my list.

Hi Olli. I only got the F80 a few weeks ago and have just shot the one roll with it so far. I already had an F70 but, while that’s a nice capable camera too (albeit with an odd LCD menu system), it didn’t allow me to use the full functionality with G lenses – I had no way to control the aperture and could only use P mode when they were attached. The F80 gives this extra level of functionality, plus has some other features and controls that I find useful (a threaded cable-release slot, and the ability to back-button focus for example). All in all I’m very happy with it and am looking forward to using it again.

Thanks for that. I have a bunch of AI/AIS lenses I use with my FM2. How well does it do with manual focus?

It’s not ideal. Like most AF cameras it has no split-prism or similar focus aid, so you’re reliant on trusting your eyesight or the electronic rangefinder. The rangefinder appears accurate, but you’re dependent on a small green dot flashing up in the bottom left of the viewfinder to confirm focus. This is probably fine if you’re using a tripod on a static subject, or if you set an aperture that gives a large depth of field, but it’s not great if you want to use a shallow depth of field on a close up or moving subject and you’re hand-holding the camera.
