Autumn trees

I was going to say that this post features the last of this year’s crop of autumnal pictures, but I have a few more on a roll of 35mm Kodak Gold still to be uploaded, so there will still be a few more to share (although I expect it will be after Christmas before that happens, unless I move them up the schedule).

The two pictures here were taken near the village of Barlow in Derbyshire, not too far from Chesterfield. I’ve driven past the lone tree pm a few occasions and noticed that it has a handy public footpath running through the field beside it. Whit it was the main reason I got out of the car with my camera, I think I prefer the first shot of the woodland, which has a nice selection of autumnal tones against the slightly hazy blue sky. The lone tree is ok, but I think there is a better photograph to be had.

I’ve managed to shoot (almost) a couple of rolls of 120 Ilford HP5+ this weekend during an overnight trip to York with my wife to visit the Christmas market. I’m not sure how they will turn out – I rarely make my best pictures when I’m out with someone else, and always feel like I’m rushing or missing things. I’ll hopefully get a chance to develop them soon though, so we shall see…

Scenes from an autumn walk part 2

Following on from yesterday’s post showing pictures taken on Lomography Color Negative 400, here’s a (smaller) selection of images that I shot with Fujifilm Pro 160NS.

I’ve already posted a couple of images individually from this roll here and here. Despite taking the full fifteen images that the ETRSi provides per roll, I haven’t uploaded that many of them. Many of them felt samey, or I didn’t get the results I’d hoped for. Also, while the day had great light, by the time I shot this roll the sun was already higher in the sky and starting to feel a bit harsh and this, coupled with the lack of clouds in the sky, left a few of the images looking a little bland. I might be able to tweak the editing to get more from them, but that’s something for another day (if I do it at all).

This first shot of the fungi-covered tree stump is my favourite of the set, but the third picture found it’s way into Flickr’s Explore selection, so received a lot more online popularity.

Scenes from an autumn walk part 1

Blessed with fine weather and on a day where I could take advantage of it, I headed out to the area around Padley Gorge and the Longshaw Estate one Saturday morning in early November with the hopes of catching some autumnal scenes.

The pictures posted today are ones I shot on a roll of Lomography Color Negative 400 with my Bronica ETRSi. Tomorrow I’ll post another, smaller set, that I shot on Fujifilm Pro 160NS.

Sherwood Forest Scenes

I’ve never visited Sherwood Forest before, despite it being only half-an-hour’s drive from where I live. I’ve visited Clumber Park and it’s surrounding woodland on many occasions though, and I guess that’s all part of the original much larger area of forest.

The trip I took last month was mostly intended to photograph the Major Oak but, if I’m honest, it’s not all that photogenic and, due to the fences that surround it, the compositions are a bit limited. I’m sure that, under good conditions, there are many good photographs to be had, but I feel that the other trees (including many other ancient oaks) withing the forest are perhaps better subjects.

Today I’ve posted a few other pictures from the trip. I think I might try to return in a few weeks when tthe autumn colour is in full effect.

Italian building revisited, and a backlog of images.

Does anyone remember what I posted back on the 1st of June? No? Well, neither did I, but I knew that I’d posted another photograph of the building that features in today’s post.

It seems strange that photographs taken a couple of days apart, are seperated by over a month in the blog timeline.

When posting on the blog throughout the year my pool of available photos seems to go through peaks and troughs. Sometimes I pretty much have to make sure I go out and make new photos just to keep the blog fed with fresh material. At other time, like now, I have a big backlog of stuff to get through – maybe in the region of about 8-10 rolls of 135 and 120 format images, some already on Flickr, some yet to be uploaded there, some not yet scanned, and a couple of rolls still to develop.

The pile is growing to the extent that I expect that I’ll break away from posting one or two pictured per day and maybe post bigger sets. I have a couple of rolls shot with the GW690 for instance, almost all shot at the same location on the same day, that will make a post about that particular outing.

No doubt I’ll be scratching around for stuff again in a few months though.

Snowy suburbs

There will be a number of snowy photographs to come over the next few days – the results of a brief spell of wintery weather where I actually got chance to go out and take advantage of it before it went away. Most of the shots were taken in a rural setting, but this one – in a brief section of my walk that went through a suburban area – turned out particularly nicely, I think.

At the end of the week

It’s been a long week. I’ve been very busy at work but managed to complete the main task I had yesterday, leaving today feeling somewhat more relaxed and, as a small reward, I’ve treated myself to an earlier finish than usual.

The weather for the coming weekend looks to be mixed. Tomorrow is forecast to have heavy cloud and perhaps rain but Sunday looks brighter with sunny intervals. If the forecast is correct (we’ll see…) then I might try and get out with the 4×5 camera on Sunday afternoon, though I’ve not yet given much thought as to where to go.

Tomorrow will be utilised to develop the roll of film I shot last weekend while visiting Photo North and possibly scanning some E6 positives that should be on their way back to me in the post. I’m also hoping to watch some stuff on TV, do some reading, and maybe continue playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on my recently acquired Nintendo Switch. Does anyone have a four day weekend going spare?

After a long week, here’s a picture of a house with a long driveway (which is also a public right of way).

False autumn

There’s a definite autumnal feel to the picture in today’s post, I think, despite it being made in early February.

It’s the colours that do it, lots of browns and oranges here in the buildings, bricks, and boughs.
