Along the farm track
Not far from the Trans Pennine Trail at Renishaw stands a farm. A public footpath runs along the farm track, fields to one side, and a wooded area to the other.
When the track reaches the farm gate the footpath forks away across a grassy field, beneath a row of power lines, and then descends down a stony path, passing an impressive tree with an large hollow exposing its roots.
After this point, the path is rejoined by the one I showed in yesterday’s post and they then descent to the railway line, which can be crossed by a footbridge.

A gateway to the mist
There’s a footpath beyond this gate that I haven’t walked before as I always take an alternate route that skirts some arable fields (you’ll see a couple of pictures from there soon). That mist does look tempting though. Perhaps next time I’m in the vicinity I will take the pass less well trod.

Backlit trees
I spotted these trees backlit by the autumn sunshine after dropping my son of at work. I don’t tend to take my camera out when doing this, but on this occasion I had a few frames of film still waiting to be shot so had it with me on the off-chance.
Something good that happened today…
Nothing particularly good happened. Nothing particularly bad happened. It’s been an average day.
I sometimes (often!) struggle to find something to write in this slot on the blog, especially if my mood is low – the things I use are often trivial – but in reality I have so much to be thankful for and, while I’m often unhappy about all manner of things, I am grateful for what I have. It’s good for me to recognise this.

Pictures made on a holiday stroll
I already posted a picture of this yacht when I was uploading “on location” during our holiday, but the photo below (and the other shots in this post) was taken earlier that day when my wife and I took a walk along the coastal path that led from our hotel to an area of restaurants, bars and shops.

Steps and a cycle gate
A quick post today, and it’s of a subject I’ve shot before (see here), but it’s the steps to the top of a railway bridge and, beside it, a particularly pointless cycle gate. It’s one of those mundane pictures that I nonetheless quite like.

A line of trees
Another shot made possible by having the XA3 in my coat pocket. I did have my Fujica GW690 with me on the day, but that had already greedily eaten all my 120 film in it’s limited eight-shot stomach. So the XA3 came to the rescue for any other pictures I spotted.
I honestly didn’t know if this would be a nothing shot at the time I took it. I spent a bit of effort to make sure the trees all had separation (as much as possible, at least – there’s a background tree hiding behind one of the foreground ones), but the scene didn’t look all that inspiring to the naked eye. However, seeing it appear in black and white, I realise what it was that had caught my eye, and it’s one of the best pictures from the day. There’s something about the way a camera renders a scene that can make it different, and more interesting, than what was seen with the naked eye. The opposite can be true as well, of course, but in this case the camera captured it better.

Sunlit woodlands
While walking around the Derwent reservoirs, my descent back to my car took me through some pine forest where the low winter sun was shining beneath the canopy illuminating the trunks of the trees.
I attempted two shots with the XA3, which didn’t turn out badly at all – I was expecting camera shake as, despite the sunlight, it was still quite dim beneath the canopy, and braced myself against trees to attempt to keep the camera steady. Luckily there is only perhaps minimal evidence of any shake.

Trees across the water
About halfway along Derwent reservoir there is a tributary on it’s western bank where a side valley joins the main. It was across this part of the reservoir from the south that I noticed these trees and the reflections of their trunks in the dark water.
Because of the time of the year the sun was low in the sky and cast a shadow across the water and the foreground trees, while those a little further back caught its light. I liked the layers and contrast that this created.

Yikes!
I almost forgot to write and post my blog this evening!
I faffed around doing stuff on the computer for a bit after work, then took a shower and headed downstairs to veg out for the evening (“veg out” actually means “be remorselessly harassed by my two self-centred cats for a couple of hours“…). I was about to take my cup of tea into the living room when I remembered.
I’m approaching my two-thousand-consecutive-daily-post milestone this year, so I’d like to try and make it there if I can. Not that it really means anything. But, yet, somehow it does…
