Scarborough chalets

I haven’t been able to bring myself to start (re)dust-spotting the image I spoke about yesterday yet, but I have completed my re-scans of my 2018 Sorrento negatives. I don’t think the final roll had as many interesting pictures, sadly, but there are a few good ones – although most of them have already been uploaded to my Flickr account previously, so it will just be a case of replacing them with (hopefully) better versions.

But today it’s another picture from Scarborough. I have a love/hate relationship with Kodak Gold. It can produce very nice results, but I always find it a pain to scan, sometime giving me differing results across a single roll. For instance, the picture today has some odd graininess at the upper right of the frame, which I’ve reduced a little, but not completely. Similar artifacts are not present on other shots, so who knows the cause?

Scarborough

A view across Scarborough’s south bay.

I’m in an odd mood today and feel very little impetus to do anything with my pictures. I think this is in large part due to the fact that a scan I spent ages dust spotting a few days ago has been lost and I now only have the original with all the dust, and I really don’t have the energy to go through that process again right now. This has dampened my mood and put me off doing anything else.

It’s frustrating when lab negs have far more dust than the ones I develop at home and dry in the shower cubicle!

Foggy day trees on film

I already posted some digital photos of trees in the fog that I took on this day, and now here are the film versions (they aren’t all the same trees, I don’t think). The second one is my favourite.

I developed my first roll of film today in what feels like ages, although it probably hasn’t been that long. Definitely a few weeks though. It was a roll of Fomapan 400 from my bulk roll. Because I was a little generous with the bulk-loader (42 clicks worth, I think), and also due to shooting it with my tiny Olympus XA-3, I ended up with 41 full frames – a record for me. I haven’t scanned any yet, but the negatives look ok and I hopefully haven’t scratched them like I have in the past.

Kissing gate

Kissing gates’ primary purpose is to allow human passage while restricting that of livestock. The origin of the name is supposedly because the gate “kisses” it’s frame when it opens and closes, although the more romantic later etymology alludes to couples in close proximity taking the opportunity to kiss in the confined space.

They can be a real PITA if you have a backpack and a tripod, let me tell you!

Across Cuckney water meadows

This was almost the half-way point of my walk on this day. I continued on to the front of the church and even took a few pictures in the graveyard (although I’m not happy with the results, so haven’t published them anywhere). There was a sizeable population of rabbits scampering about on the dry slopes around the water meadows when I arrived, although they all disappeared pretty quickly once they noticed my presence.
