Abandoned bags

Another shot featuring reflections (albeit, mostly of the sky in this one) making up a trio of posts over the last three days. I like the ambiguity of this shot, it making it look like the faceless person walking away has forgotten or abandoned their bags.

One thing this roll shot with the little Pentax Espio has taught me, is that the camera falls back on slow shutter speeds very quickly in low light. Several shots on the roll were largely spoiled because of subsequent camera shake (although in some cases, the motion blur has added a great sence of movement to the images too). This said, I have used it in dim light before without any noteable camera shake, so I wonder if it’s somehow mis-read the Kentmere’s DX coding (or maybe it’s just faulty)? Where I’ve used the camera in sunny conditions, it’s a capable little performer though, so I shall bear that in mind for future reference.

London skyline

Jumping back six or seven weeks for today’s image, a shot of the City of London skyline taken from the South Bank at Blackfriar’s Bridge.

I like the way this has turned out – there’s a very slight haze on the tall buidings that gives a nice tonality to the shot. Even with a somewhat flat sky, I still think the image works well.

The handily-placed boat doesn’t hurt either. 🙂

Smoking

Taken at the Barbican complex in London a couple of weeks ago. It was a quickly grabbed shot as I liked the way the scene was lit and the little splashes of colour on the bins. I’m glad the chap is in the picture too, but I think it might still have worked without him there.

Eagle-eyed readers can see this photo yesterday

In yesterday’s blog post I featured a cityscape shot of London depicting the Thames, the South Bank, and – in the distance – various other famous buildings (St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard, the office towers in the City of London).

One thing that probably went mostly unnoticed is the staircase that I’m showing today. It’s in there if you look for it.

I took a couple of shots of this – the other has a lady halfway up the second flight – but, while that one is ok, I much prefer this. The positioning of the man, the contrast and sharpness that the good ‘ol OM-1 and Zuiko glass provides, plus a bonus pigeon(!) make this one work better, I think.

The River Thames and London skyline

This was taken from the Golden Jubilee bridge over the Thames. It’s a double pedestrian footbridge with seperate walkways either side of the Hungerford Bridge (which carries rail traffic over the river and into Charing Cross Station).

The bridge that can be seen in the shot is Waterloo Bridge.
