As promised yesterday, here are the two large format photographs of Mother Cap, a gristone outcrop on the moorland above Hathersage. Looking at them closely, both have focusing issues, and I’ll leave the yellow filter off the lens until after the shot is composed and focused in future as it did make it more difficult to view the scene, but they both look fine if you don’t investigate them too closely.

I see what you mean about some focus issues in the images – enlarged them in Flickr. Your stated f/stop is 5.6. I would think minimally f/8 with f/11 to f/22 preferable and reciprocity considered if necessary. Your depth of field seems to shallow for such landscapes to me. Does this help?

Thanks N. That’s just the description of the lens I used, which has a maximum aperture of f/5.6. The shots here were actually taken with the lens stopped down to f/16. I would have shot them at f/22, but there was a bit of a breeze and I wanted to avoid motion in the foliage as much as possible.

That’s interesting. Remember the f/64 club? I wonder what their secrets were. I do know that Adams did a lot of editing in the real darkroom. Nonetheless, I enjoyed these photos.
