Moored at the quay

Another photo taken at the canal basin in Sheffield. I took five or six shots here to finish off a roll of film still in the camera after my trip to Barcelona and I shot all of them with a red filter. The somewhat harsh tones add a grittiness to the images.

  1. Very nice — I always really enjoy your Fomapan images. Do you know what developer was used? I think you mentioned some time back that your typical lab uses XTOL, but I don’t know if that’s what was used on this roll. It would surprise me a bit as the grain here is chunkier than I’m used to with Fomapan 200. Still, it lends itself very well to the gritty aesthetic. I hope you continue to shoot the Fomapan films fairly frequently. Many of my favorite images of yours originate from these stocks.

    1. Hi P. Yes, it will have been XTOL again. I’m not sure why the grain is so prominent here. It‘s probably a combination of exposure, development and my Lightroom post processing.

      1. Well, whatever the reason, the grain definitely adds to the mood of this image. I really like the inky blacks as well, especially in the water.
