The term ‘forest’ in the title up there is somewhat misleading. This is actually a small plantation of pines nestled into a meander of the River Rother not far from Eckington. It’s a place I’ve never visited before, but it has potential for some nice photos – it certainly did on the snowy, misty day when this photo was taken.

This field looks hard and frost-bitten. It wasn’t – there were times when my feet literally sank completely in the thick wet mud of the footpath that runs along the bottom edge (and where all the meltwater was draining).

Not far from where I live is the floodplain of the River Rother, where horses and cows sometimes graze. It’s also the location of a number of willow trees, a few of which have been notably disfigured by some force.

The following photos were taken this morning. I’d planned on visiting the flea market at Chesterfield, but on the way there noticed the nice misty conditions and so got waylaid taking some photographs instead. I decided to convert these to B&W and add some gradient filters and vignettes as I felt it suited the compositions. It’s brought out the grain a lot, but I think that works too.
