Suburban snapshot

It’s one of those days where I’m having a bout of writer’s block so, rather than try to force something, here’s a picture of a suburban scene. I liked the light, the colours, and the composition with the back of the red car peeking out beside the bungalow.

Snowy suburbs

There will be a number of snowy photographs to come over the next few days – the results of a brief spell of wintery weather where I actually got chance to go out and take advantage of it before it went away. Most of the shots were taken in a rural setting, but this one – in a brief section of my walk that went through a suburban area – turned out particularly nicely, I think.

Suburban scenes

There are a number of these “Tudor”-style houses that I pass on the way to Rother Valley Country Park. They were built in the 80s. Most of them still look pretty well kept, but I wonder if the particular design involves additional upkeep not required by the more standard brick-fronted properties?

Would Tudor people
Have lived in a house like this?
Something tells me no

Suburban sunrise

A couple of weeks back I awoke to a beautiful misty morning. Alas I was at work that day – plus I had to get the kids sorted for school – so I thought it would be another one of those occasions where I feel robbed of the opportunity to take advantage of the conditions. Thankfully however, the mist persisted past the time the kids left the house and left me a short window of opportunity to get out and make some photographs.

I managed to get to the local country park, which is just a short distance from home (you’ll see some of those pictures in the coming days, hopefully), and today’s picture is of some houses sat beneath the rising sun which I passed on my way.

In suburbia #3

A third batch of suburban scenes – this time in black and white – that I shot just before Christmas. I never give up the chance to take photos on misty or foggy days unless I have no choice, so while this was only a quick half-hour walk, it still deliverd a handful of nice photographs.

In suburbia #2

A second trio of shots taken while walking around local suburban areas. The first was taken on the same day as those in yesterday’s post, the others a couple of days later. I’m not sure that these scenes would work under different conditions (although I guess maybe in fog, or at night could be interesting), but the low winter sun (and the long, deep shadows it casts) that we get in these northern latitudes makes things nicely photogenic.

While posting yesterday’s images I had the Pet Shop Boy’s “Suburbia” running through my mind. Today it was “The Suburbs” by Arcade Fire.
