A lovely day at the seaside

“Bracing”, that’s the word we use to describe those seaside walks in bitterly cold wind.

This day however was far from bracing – it was taken back in February during an unseasonably warm period.  Good old climate change, eh? At least we’ll get some nice warm days at the seaside in the middle of the winter before the sea swamps the place altogether so we can never visit it again.

Only £7

Another photo from a recent trip to Manchester. The meeting I was attending finished earlier than expected so I had an hour or so to kill while waiting for the train I had a ticket for. So I went for a walk. I’d taken the Zeiss on the trip for two reasons: Firstly, I’d just had it CLA’d and wanted to test it out if I got the chance, and; Secondly, it folds down to almost pocket size, which is a wonderful feature in a medium format camera when you need to travel light.

Landscape Photographer of the Year

Well, sort of…

On a recent visit to Manchester I arrived at Manchester Picadilly station to find a series of boards displaying the winning entries for the most recent Landscape Photographer of the Year competition.

There were some beautiful and striking images on show and I took a couple of photographs of people looking at them – this one from the balcony overlooking the ticket-hall area.

I’ve cropped it from the square original due to a winding error (I didn’t wind it on enough and got two slightly overlapping frames).

Boot sale

Ah, the good old British car-boot sale. What beats getting up at 6:30am on a misty Sunday morning on the off-chance that someone is selling a Leica for a quid?

I didn’t get a Leica on this occasion (as I haven’t on all the occasions I’ve ever been to a car-boot sale, oddly enough), but I bought a Vivitar V635 with 28-70mm and 80-200mm lenses, and an Olympus OM-10 with a Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 for the princely sum of £12.

The Zuiko lens was faulty, so that went on eBay for spares / repairs and I got enough for it to cover my initial £12 outlay. The Vivitar was tested and, while it worked perfectly well and was in great condition, the lenses weren’t as sharp as others I already own for other systems, so that is being sold off too. I replaced the light seals in the OM-10 and finished a roll of Agfa Vista Plus 200 in it the other day, so should get the results back from that test roll this week. If all is well, I might keep hold of that as a spare body to complement my OM-1.

Three wise men

Taken on a morning wandering around the flea market. I used my Olympus Trip 35, which hasn’t had an outing in quite some time, but it’s a lovely little camera. Unfortunately the weather was windy with frequent showers so the market was underpopulated both with visitors, and also with stalls themselves. I still managed to get a few nice shots on the day though.

That said, the Fomapan 400 negatives are quite thin – this is the third time I’ve had this (with three different cameras), so I’m not sure what’s amiss. I’ve not had any issues with the film under-exposing before that I can recall. Oh, well, back to HP5+ for my next 400 speed shoots anyway.
