Gainsborough Old Hall

Gainsborough Old Hall began as a 15th‑century manor built by Sir Thomas Burgh II before later passing to the Hickman family, who modernised. Over the following centuries it fragmented into workshops, tenements, civic spaces and even a theatre, before falling into decline. Restoration efforts in the mid‑20th century ultimately saved it, and it now survives as one of England’s best‑preserved medieval manor houses, owned by English Heritage.

I’ve been inside on a previous visit, back when I had a one year English Heritage membership, but this time I just took a few pictures of the exterior.

Again, these are Lomography Color Negative 800 images that I’ve converted to black and white.

Rooftop

Another of those “it just caught my eye” shots although, to be truthful, pretty much every shot I take is because something just caught my eye.

This is the roof of a cottage in the grounds of the Dukeries estate shot, from all places, next to the restaurant in their garden centre.

It looked nice though, and despite the overcast nature of the weather at the time, it was catching some nice light.

Drunk-posting

I went out with friends to a local pub today. I’ve drunk more than I have for quite some time – not enough to make me roaring drunk, but I certainly have something of a healthy buzz going as I type this. Please don’t hold me accountable for any rubbish I post, or any typos (above and beyond the ones that seemingly always drop into my posts, at least).

I didn’t intend to drink as much as I have (even though it was’t a particularly excessive volume) but, as anyone who’s been to a bar can probably attest, a couple of drinks and your intentions can slip, and I ended up doubling the quantity of alcoholic drinks I planned on limiting myself to. I hope I don’t have to pay for it with a hangover!

Today’s photo is of a pub, or the upper part of it at least. Not the one I’ve visited today though, this is the Red Deer in Sheffield town centre.

Looking back on the words above, they seem to pass muster. Perhaps I can hold my liquor better than I thought. 🙂
