Making do
As Flickr seems to be having considerable issues today due to the significant AWS outage, I’m uploading a picture directly for a change.
I’ve just picked something I shot a week ago on my trip to Mablethorpe – the place where The Cut, empties into the North Sea via a concrete outfall. It’s another of those things that I’ve photographed on numerous occasions, but the light is quite nice here.

Scene from a bridge
Another quick post this evening as, this time, I’ve just got back from a trip to the seaside.
So here’s a digital shot I took this morning from the bridge across the River Trent in Gainsborough. I took a film shot from the same location, which I hope will turn out as nicely.
I cropped it to a 6×17 ratio, so it’ll probably look nicer if you click through to the Flickr version.

A figure by a lighthouse
A quick post this evening as I’ve just got back from the cinema (where I saw TRON Ares, which I enjoyed a lot).
Here’s another digital shot from our recent trip to Menorca. This is the Far d’Artrutx lighthouse on the south-western tip of the island. The woman in the shot was there by happenstance, but I think her presence adds a lot to the picture.

Outside a supermarket at blue hour
I spent the last week in Menorca with my wife (I pre-scheduled the posts with the half-frame pictures that have been popping up over the past seven days – I have a bunch more of those and mean, at some point, to post my thoughts on the camera I used to take them).
While we were away, I shot a couple of rolls of film and also took a bunch of pictures with my little Ricoh compact digital camera too, which I’m starting to post-process. Here’s one of them…

In an airport
A couple of edited (and cropped) candid shots that I took while waiting to board our flight home from Barcelona just before Christmas last year.
Sometimes it’s good to sit on pictures for a decent length of time. You see them differently and sometimes find things you like which were previously overlooked.

It’s-a-me!
I was planning of writing a post about a trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park today, but I haven’t managed to get around to it. So, instead, here’s a digital shot that I took while on holiday last month. I’ve just treated myself to a Nintendo Switch 2, so it seems kinda apt.

Not as hot…
The temperatures have cooled noticeably today and I can feel a pleasant breeze from the window as I type this (yesterday my office was unbearably stuffy). However, I went out today and despite the fresher air outside, the house was considerably warmer inside than out when I got back, although it does seem to have cooled somewhat now we’ve aired it some more.
I decided to go out and make some photographs today. I’ve had the last couple of days free to do this but the hot weather really put me off. I also think I’ve been having a bit of a dip in my photography mojo recently too, finding it difficult to work up enthusiasm to get out with a camera. I expect that the drive to take pictures will return, but it’s a bit frustrating to have time for photography but not the inclination – it feels like I’m wasting opportunity.
My lack desire for picture taking was still evident this morning, but knowing it was the last day of my long weekend, that the weather was more inviting, and that I’d probably feel guilty for not going out, I gave myself a kick up the backside and headed out. I had half-a-roll of HP5+ in my OM-10, plus I took my Yashica Mat 124G and three rolls of film for that too (better to have too much film and not shoot it, than to run out).
In the end, I managed to finish the roll in the OM-10, and also most of a roll of 120 HP5+ in the Yashica Mat. Not only that, but I’m quite looking forward to seeing the results, which is a positive sign.
Next weekend is the annual Sheffield Steam Rally, so I’ll be heading there to get yet more shots of steam engines, classic cars, and suchlike.

Hot again
Another hot and sticky day here again. It’s nothing compared to the temperatures and humidity in other parts of the world, of course, but it’s the UK and we’re not really geared up for much beyond drizzle and overcast skies. One thing we are very adept at, however, is moaning about the weather, whatever shape it comes in. 🙂
Here’s a shot I took during our recent trip to Spain, where it was very warm, but we were on holiday so it didn’t feel the same somehow.

On Cleethorpes Beach
I’ve posted pictures of this location on plenty of previous occasions. Today seemed apt for another as the local branch of Papa’s, which closed almost a year ago, seemingly for good (another branch in Sheffield closed not long afterwards) has announced that it’s re-opening this week.
The local branch is next to a shopping mall, rather than on a pier beside the North Sea, but beggars can’t be choosers.
Tomorrow they have a special offer of takeaway fish and chips for £1 all day. I’m going to be enjoying the fruits of an Indian restaurant tomorrow evening, so no fish and chips for me, but my wife and sons might be able to take advantage of the offer.
