One evening on our holiday we walked to the nearby lighthouse (pictures coming tomorrow!). It had rained heavily earlier and the sky was still full of impressive clouds. On the edge of this road lay a large scimitar, or crescent shaped puddle, and I grabbed a quick photo of this couple reflected in its surface.

Another digital picture from my recent visit to Mablethorpe. The tide had receded and left a lovely reflective sheen on the flat sand, over which this person and their frolicking dog crossed.

Following yesterday’s reflection picture, here’s another. This is right next door to the Student’s Union building and, again, the River Witham provides reflection duties. I prefer this picture to yesterdays, although the reflection isn’t as good.

Sitting right beside the River Witham means there are some nice reflections to be had when photographing the University of Lincoln’s Student’s Union building.

I’ve finished work now for the Easter weekend and the whole of next week, which is nice. Unfortunately, I’m also feeling pretty anxious about some stuff going on in my family. I wish I was better at dealing with anxiety. My wife worries about things too, as does everyone – especially their children’s wellbeing – but is able to avoid the worry consuming her. It’s something I envy.
I tend to be ok through the daytime, but early mornings seem to be worst, where I’ll wake with panicked thoughts that prevent me from getting back to sleep.
It’s perfectly possible that I’m being over-anxious and that I will look back and wonder what I was fussing about, but my brain has a tendency to catastrophise and I really need to find some way of dealing with this.

The 27th December 2024 was another misty day, and so I loaded another roll of Tri-X and headed out to the Moss Valley, a location that I’ve shot in similar conditions on previous occasions. However, despite being a valley replete with a river and a series of ponds, the area was almost completely mist free when I arrived. Still, waste not, want not – I took a wander down the valley from where I parked my car in the pub car-park at Ford and shot all twelve frames. The selection in today’s post were taken around a couple of the aforementioned ponds.

This location had a lot of potential for interesting pictures, the mirrored tiles on the curved overhang casting all sorts of interesting reflections. It’s a location which, had I been there alone, I would have spent some time working to try and find the best shots.
This sort of activity isn’t really possible when I’m with someone else though, as I quickly become conscious that I’m keeping that person (my wife in this case, with little interest in photography) hanging around and I begin to feel selfish. It’s why I almost always prefer solo photography.
While my wife is not a photographer, she did spot this scene at the same time as me and commented that it would make a good picture. Perhaps I’m rubbing off on her. 🙂

Since I posted about my film stash the other day, it has now grown from 168 rolls to 189 rolls! I did mention in that post that I had 15 rolls on their way to me but, as I was also given the opportunity to buy some more, I did…
It’s all colour 120 format film: 10 rolls of Ektar, 5 rolls of Portra 160, 3 rolls of Ektachrome E100, 2 rolls of Portra 400, and a single roll of Velvia 50. It was also all better than half-price (although some of it is just past expiry), which was why I bought it despite knowing how much film I already have.
Most of it will be frozen and not used until next summer comes around, but I hope to be able to shoot some of it this autumn if favourable weather and free time align. We shall see, I guess.
Today’s picture used the sum total of zero frames from my stash, being a digital photo, but I quite like the cluttered double-exposure-style image that was visible both through, and reflected in, a bar window. My shadow self is in there too! 🙂
