The Flood

This memorial stands beside the River Don in Sheffield and remembers those who lost their lives in the 1864 flood which resulted from the collapse of the Dale Dyke dam up near the top of the Loxley valley which released 700 million gallons of water.

Cannery lady

Driving through Eckington recently I noticed a new memorial had been placed. It depicts a lady with a sack of peas and tin cans to commemorate the Derbyshire Canners Factory which used to stand nearby. I know little more about the factory and have no idea how long it stood, or when it operated, but I liked the look of the memorial and thought it worth a photograph, especially in foggy weather.

Water’s Edge

Close to the Humber Bridge is the Water’s Edge Visitor Centre. It’s an interesting building and was worth a few photos. The last photo, of the deer woven from willow, has a sad story behind it. It’s a memorial to a roe deer who lived at the nature reserve which was mauled by a dog and had to be put down early in 2017.
