Near the top of the funicular

Three photos taken in the area near the top of the funicular in Capri Town.

There were huge queues for the funicular so I suggested to my wife that we walk up instead. Surely it can’t be that far? I remember there being groups of exhausted looking people at regular points of the ascent in little areas that were akin to base-camps. How my wife laughed…

And then, because we didn’t want to miss out boat off the island, we ended up walking back down again later. At least we had gravity on our side for the descent…

Shrine

I’ve had a busy day today doing various bits and bobs and it’s suddenly 7:30 in the evening! So I’ll quickly bung another Capri re-scan onto the blog. I can’t remember where precisely in Capri this was (although it will be in Capri Town somewhere), but I like the splash of colour in the otherwise soft and high-key scene.

Beware crabs bearing gifts

A few more Capri pictures that I’ve re-scanned. Some of these I’ve uploaded to Flickr in the past, but others never left my hard drive (in their original form).

Today a trio of shots of some of the high-end fashion outlets in Capri Town, none of which I ventured inside. I’m uninterested in fashion at the best of times, so my attraction was purely to whether I though a decent photograph was present.

I’m not sure which store the crab was working in…

Physics in action

A further image from Capri (I think I’m posting these while I figure out how to post a batch of much more recent pictures).

I don’t know if this boy-and-elephant sculpture is a permanent fixture outside the Prada store in Capri, or if it was just a temporary exhibit, but it deserved a photo.

Chainmail

Another picture from our Sorrento trip that I’ve recently re-scanned, but which I don’t believe has ever featured on the blog before (from my quick search, at least).

Again, this was taken on the island of Capri and this interesting sculpture of a woman formed from bike chains was an eye-catching sight.

Punta Carena lighthouse

I’ve recently re-scanned some older negatives from when my wife and I visited Sorrento in Italy in 2018. While I was happy with my scans at the time, I can produce much better results now and I also realised that a lot of the pictures I’d taken were never uploaded, including the one posted here today.

This isn’t Sorrento, but the south-western point of the island of Capri, named Punta Carena, upon which stands this lighthouse. The photo was taken from the boat we were on which circled around the island before heading to port.

There’s a nice sense of scale to the picture, I think, with the foreground coast, the lighthouse, and then the dramatic cliffs beyond.
