Blanes beach boats
I thought I’d go alliterative with the title of today’s post. 🙂
Two pictures taken close together and as consecutive frames of boats on the beach at Blanes (those six words, and indeed the title of the post, make for tricky tongue-twisters. As does the phrase “tricky tongue-twisters” for that matter!)
The first picture was the second one I shot, and my favourite of the two by far, and managed to find its way into Flickr’s Explore section when I posted it. The colours are nice and it reminds me of the French flag (although blue, white, and red stripes are used in a multitude of other national flags too).
The second shot is nice too, but lacks the vivid colours of the first and loses some impact as a result.

Another hot day
We’re in our fourth heatwave of the year here in the Uk, and while the temperatures are not likely to break records (I think they will just break the 30° level in some places), our homes and infrastructure will serve to ensure that it’s uncomfortable. Each year when we get these conditions I tell myself that we’ll buy a portable air-con unit, but so far it hasn’t happened. However, if this sort of uncomfortable weather continues to increase in frequency and duration as climate change continues to make its presence felt, it’s only a matter of time before I fork out for one.
It’s hotter here at present than it was when I visited Spain in June. The temperatures are much more manageable when you can leisurely walk along a beach, like the one below in Blanes.

Birds, surf, beachgoers, and hotels
This is my favourite photo I took during our visit to Lloret de Mar. I got the timing pretty much as good as I could have wished, with the three cormorants on the rocks in the foreground in front of a nice wash of blue and white surf, and then the backdrop of the tourist filled beach and row of hotels. KFC even gave it a complimentary splash of red!

Holiday brochure
When I first saw the scan of this picture, my first thought was that it looked like a photo from a holiday brochure. I remember, before it was possible to find and book trips online, that we used to have stacks of these brochures in the house when we were planning a trip, all filled with similar shots of beaches, hotels, swimming pools, and local attractions.

Hot again
Another hot and sticky day here again. It’s nothing compared to the temperatures and humidity in other parts of the world, of course, but it’s the UK and we’re not really geared up for much beyond drizzle and overcast skies. One thing we are very adept at, however, is moaning about the weather, whatever shape it comes in. 🙂
Here’s a shot I took during our recent trip to Spain, where it was very warm, but we were on holiday so it didn’t feel the same somehow.

On Cleethorpes Beach
I’ve posted pictures of this location on plenty of previous occasions. Today seemed apt for another as the local branch of Papa’s, which closed almost a year ago, seemingly for good (another branch in Sheffield closed not long afterwards) has announced that it’s re-opening this week.
The local branch is next to a shopping mall, rather than on a pier beside the North Sea, but beggars can’t be choosers.
Tomorrow they have a special offer of takeaway fish and chips for £1 all day. I’m going to be enjoying the fruits of an Indian restaurant tomorrow evening, so no fish and chips for me, but my wife and sons might be able to take advantage of the offer.

On the beach at Sutton-on-Sea
I cropped in on this a little, but the big 6×9 negative took it well, and the GW690 still keeps it nice and sharp.
Something good that happened today…
A simple thing, but this morning, as I was cleaning out the cats’ litter tray into a bag to go in the bin, there was a very loud tweeting in the garden. The singer was a small robin atop the fence, chirping at the top of it’s little lungs. It was a really nice start to the day (although maybe not the cat litter part…).
