Pubs in decline

Pubs are an industry in decline. Many (away from town centres, at least) are either closed, struggling, or transformed into family pub-restaurants. There are still loads of pubs about, so they aren’t on their last-legs just yet, but it’s a common sight to see one boarded up these days, sadly.

  1. This is a great regret of mine, that when I was in my twenty’s I didn’t photograph all the pubs in my home town of Sittingbourne, which at one time had a large number of public houses or coaching inn’s because of being located half way between London and Dover. So many have now gone, converted into flats, houses or even demolished.
    Another missed opportunity!

    Great image by the way.

    1. Thanks. It’s easy to miss them, isn’t it? Things that are commonplace, contemporary and mundane today will be objects of nostalgia in the future. Maybe we should take photos of Primark and Carphone Warehouse while they’re still around. 🙂
