Fence & bridge

Not sure if I should’ve used a smaller aperture for this to get the bridge sharp too. It wasn’t my intention to have it sharp, but maybe it would’ve worked better if I’d either gotten everything in focus, or blurred out the bridge more? Also, the top of the fence post obscuring the base of the bride support bothers me slightly. Note to self: Must take more time when composing!

Where Hancock & Lant used to stand

The photos here are of the Hancock & Lant tower. Where it stands there used to be a furniture retailer of the aforementioned name – we bought a bed, or a wardrobe, or something from there once. They moved locations years ago though. I remember visiting a few times, and one of the most memorable things about the location was that it was accessed via a narrow alley bordered on one side by the River Don, and the building itself on the other. Outside the store there was a tiny area for customer parking. Thankfully, the alley formed a one-way system allowing vehicles to exit at the opposite end to where they came in (where the columns are in the fist photo below), so avoiding any road (alley) blocks, or cars falling through the railings and into the river below.

These are both shots taken with the 23-year expired roll of Kodak Tmax 100 I shot recently.

Water’s Edge

Close to the Humber Bridge is the Water’s Edge Visitor Centre. It’s an interesting building and was worth a few photos. The last photo, of the deer woven from willow, has a sad story behind it. It’s a memorial to a roe deer who lived at the nature reserve which was mauled by a dog and had to be put down early in 2017.

Old phone

I might not get the chance to post anything tomorrow, so here’s a quickie post to make up for it in advance.

This was taken in Gainsborough Old Hall (although I’m relatively sure it’s not a relic of the Tudor times in which the building was constructed 🙂 ).

Boats moored at Barton Haven

I took a trip to Barton Upon Humber on Wednesady this week. The main reason was to photograph the Humber Bridge to get a photo to use in a contest I’m taking part in (September’s theme is ‘bridges’) and I got several shots that I’m pretty pleased with – I’ll post them here soon. I also took the time to get a few other shots from the area, including the one below of some boats moored on Barton Haven where it joins the Humber estuary.

The film used was Fujifilm Acros 100 (a roll that expired in 2014), the first time I’ve shot this. I’ve got another roll of the expired 120 format left, plus three fresh rolls of 135 to shoot, and I’m looking forward to doing so.
