A quick post today, but beefed up with three photographs rather than the usual one. All three were taken at Leeds Dock beside the Royal Armouries museum (after I left the museum).

This is the same bridge that featured in yesterday’s post (and also the post about Retropan 320 the day before).
This is my favourite of the three pictures – the wider angle and format shows more of the bridge’s structure than the 6×6 Yashicamat photo did, plus the people in the shot are well placed in the frame, have well timed gait, and also similar hairstyles, all of which contribute I think.

I’m pretty happy with how this picture turned out. It was a spur-of-the-moment effort quickly taken when I spotted the girders and their reflections as I walked beneath this bridge over the River Aire in Leeds.
Apart from framing the photo as I wanted, my only real concern was that there might be some camera shake due to lack of light and my inability to control shutter speed or aperture on the little Olympus XA3. There was a railing just out of frame and so I leant on that to give a little extra stability. I was happy to see that the shot came out well, and better than I actually anticipated.

Papa’s has been featured on the blog before, back in 2019. It’s one of those subjects that presents itself as a great photo opportunity, with lots of detail and interest, set against the backdrop of the beach and sea beyond. I had fish and chips the day I visited when making the previous post. I had fish and chips again on this occasion, but it was much colder this time around so instead of eating them on the pier, I walked back to my car parked a short distance away on the promenade and ate them while I sat and looked out at the incoming tide.
There is something comforting about eating in the car like this. It reminds me of when, as a child, we would sometimes drive to a place named Sandilands not far from Mablethorpe in my grandparent’s car. My grandma would always stay in the car, but grandad would come down on the beach with us (us being some variant of my sister, my cousins, and myself) where we would collect the big white pebbles that were scattered around, and which my grandad placed on the ground around the base of their caravan as decoration. When it got cold, we would go back to the car and eat snacks and watch as the sea came in.

The last couple of Colorplus pictures from my Cleethorpes visit today, although not the last of the Cleethorpes photos – I also shot the best part of a roll of Ilford Delta 100 on the same day. More of those soon.
The subject of the first of these two photos has already featured twice on the blog last week (here and here), so third time’s a charm. The other is a new location, albeit only a short distance away.

Another trio of photos from Cleethorpes, this time taken at the railway station. I didn’t travel there by train, but the station was a stone’s throw from where I’d parked the car, so it seemed rude not to take a peek. I think I’ve mentioned before that I have no particular interest in railways or trains per se (at least beyond the usual level of interest that someone might have), but I do find that they make for interesting pictures.

I wonder what WABYS RIBY was?
I’ve toyed with the idea of making a zine with “ghost signs” as the theme, but I’m not sure if I know of that many that I can photograph. This one is in Cleethorpes, but there are only two that immediately spring t mind closer to home – although in a city the size of Sheffield I’m sure there must be a considerable number still lurking around.
My Plustek scanner seems to have developed a fault over the past year or so which results in a faint coloured band down the middle of images. You can see it in the blue sky on today’s picture if you look closely (above the letter Y in the sign). It’s not blatant, and it can’t be seen on more contrasty backgrounds, but it’s there and I can see it. Oddly though, it only seems to occur on scans of colour negatives. I’ve looked for it on B&W scans and colour transparencies and there’s no sighn of the artefact – even if I whack dehaze up to max in Lightroom. I’m currently communicating with Plustek support to see how I can get it fixed. Unfortunately my scanner is out of warranty so I’ll probably have to pay for a repair.

Pasted on the windows of a betting shop in Cleethorpes are a bunch of posters for the circus that was scheduled to come to town a week or so after I visited. The light was great, so it gets to be today’s picture.
I’ve had a couple of days off work this weekend, giving me four days instead of the usual two. My outstanding luck meant that this was as a sequence of winter storms hit the country and I was stuck indoors for most of the time.
Today however, despite it still being quite windy, the weather was bright so I took myself out for a few hours to get some photography done. I visited the picturesque village of Wentworth which is about half an hour’s drive. I’ve not shot my GW690 for a while, so decided to let it see some light and ran three rolls through it during the trip. It’ll be a week or two before they start appearing here as I’m currently back in the back in terms of a backlog of other new photos to post.

The light on the day I visited Cleethorpes was lovely, creating opportunities for pictures pretty much every way I turned. Including this shoe-repair / key cutting shop tucked away on a side street. It’s another of those pictures that appeals to me – just an everyday scene but with lots of little details to draw the eye.
