Mablethorpe Rock

I’m not sure when this shop first opened, but it’s been there as long as I remember, and I’ve taken more than one photograph of it over the years.

I don’t tend to buy or eat rock (maybe occasionally if it’s a fruity variant akin to a boiled sweet, rather than the pure sugar or peppermint stuff), and was amused on a recent trip to Skegness to see that the flavours available have evolved to include things like chicken tikka masala and other, perhaps non-too-appealing, varieties!

Anyway, I hope this place remains in business for a long time, it’d be sad for it not to be there.

The departing storm

We had some pretty heavy showers recently (for the UK, at least – I’m not talking hurricane season here), and I took this from the bathroom window both because clouds are ace, but also because I’d received a red filter in the post that day and thought it would be a good shot to try it out with).

The empty playground

I spotted this deserted climbing frame the other week when I went to photograph the Humber Bridge (it’s next to the car park, and behind a building that seemed to be deserted – or at least was on the day I was there). It looked kinda forlorn on such a gloomy and drizzly day, but made for a nice shot.

Water’s Edge

Close to the Humber Bridge is the Water’s Edge Visitor Centre. It’s an interesting building and was worth a few photos. The last photo, of the deer woven from willow, has a sad story behind it. It’s a memorial to a roe deer who lived at the nature reserve which was mauled by a dog and had to be put down early in 2017.

Boats moored at Barton Haven

I took a trip to Barton Upon Humber on Wednesady this week. The main reason was to photograph the Humber Bridge to get a photo to use in a contest I’m taking part in (September’s theme is ‘bridges’) and I got several shots that I’m pretty pleased with – I’ll post them here soon. I also took the time to get a few other shots from the area, including the one below of some boats moored on Barton Haven where it joins the Humber estuary.

The film used was Fujifilm Acros 100 (a roll that expired in 2014), the first time I’ve shot this. I’ve got another roll of the expired 120 format left, plus three fresh rolls of 135 to shoot, and I’m looking forward to doing so.
