I was going to write more about photography stuff today but, just as I sat at the computer, one of the fence panels on the back garden blew over. It’s not really windy, but a stray hazelnut tree has sprouted behind the panel and has grown over the past few years. The wind on it’s leaves is pushing the branches against the fence and applying extra force.
I’ve fashioned a very makeshift repair (I’ll be surprised if it lasts the night) and also cut a few of the tree’s branches back which will hopefully help. I think I need to cut the tree back more though and also find a more permanent repair for the fence panel.
Anyway… Here’s a crazy golf hut that I photographed a few months back.

Apologies to my American readers, for whom this play on words will fall slightly flat. 🙂

My wife and I took a day-trip to the seaside at the end or March. We went to Cleethorpes because it’s the quickest seaside place to get to from where we live. The weather was great for the start of spring with plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures.
We walked the length of the promenade, ate fish and chips, and ice creams, and had a nice day of it.
I took the Yashica Mat 124G with me and a few rolls of film, but I only shot this single roll of Provia 100. I’ll share the rest of the pictures in the coming days.

The Shambles is probably the most famous street in York. It’s buildings date in some cases back to the 14th century and it’s a big draw for tourists. There’s something undeniably attractive about it’s narrow, canyon-like passage, with an almost enclosed feeling due to the overhanging buildings.
The street gets its name from the fact that it used to be home to a significant number of butcher’s shops (“shambles” being an old name for such, apparently). I’m not sure that there are any butchers shops present any longer, but there is a shop that sells ghosts, and another full of Harry Potter paraphernalia.
This shot was taken quite early on a Sunday morning before the crowds of tourists began to fill it to capacity.
There are some more photos of The Shambles in this post I published back in 2017.

Of the photographs I made during our visit to York in December, the one posted here today is probably the one I like most. Technically it’s good, being sharp, well exposed and, thankfully, not showing any real sign of the low contrast that affected many of the other pictures on the two rolls I shot.
But really I just like the picture. The western side of York Minster looks enormous, looming above the streets. There’s a power to the scale of the building and it’s really quite amazing to consider the architecture, engineering, craftsmanship, and sheer art that went into the construction of these buildings.

This shot (and several others on the rolls I shot in York) showed notable loss of contrast due to the haze in my Yashicamat’s lens (hence the reason I’ve been seeking a replacement). Some work in Lightroom has done a relatively good job of bringing back a bit of punch to the image.

A couple more photographs of the packhorse bridge at Ashford-in-the-Water today. I shared another photo of the bridge a couple of days ago and mentioned that the sheep paddock at one side of the bridge contained only ducks on this occasion. You can see a couple of them (well just the back-end of one) in the second picture.

Another set of Holga 120N pictures to follow on from yesterday’s blog post. They include two views of the pavillion in Endcliffe Park, the Trinity United Reform Church (a brutalist design just across the road from the park), and a climbing frame in the middle of the park.
